Shawboro, NC (June 22, 2021) – At 9:10 p.m. on Monday night, June 21, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Shawboro.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened on NC-34 around the area of Indiantown Road. A white vehicle was traveling in the area when it suddenly collided with a female pedestrian walking in the area. The driver did not remain at the scene.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian, identified as 27-year-old Mariah Sayre, was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday night, the driver that struck Sayre came forward. The driver was identified as a 17-year-old who did not know what they hit.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
