Smithfield, NC – Two Injured in Car Accident in EB Lanes of I-40

Smithfield, NC (November 27, 2021) – On Friday night, November 26, a car accident with injuries occurred on a highway in Smithfield.

According to Johnston County officials, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near the area of I-95. A driver was traveling eastbound in the area when the driver lost control, crashing into a guardrail. The vehicle was sent through the air, where it landed against a large traffic sign. This caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver and passenger, who have not yet been identified, were both injured in the accident. They were hospitalized with serious injuries, though their current conditions are not yet known.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
