Sneads Ferry, NC (February 22, 2021) – Around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday night, February 20, a man was killed in a fatal bicycle crash in Sneads Ferry.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision took place on NC-172. A vehicle was traveling in the area when 72-year-old bicyclist Eddie Simmons turned left. The vehicle struck the bicycle.
The driver of the passenger vehicle that collided with the bike was identified as 19-year-old Ryuichi Reynolds. It is believed that the bicyclist did not see Reynolds’ Dodge because another vehicle was obscuring his view.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash. Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Bicycle Accidents in North Carolina
Bicyclists are some of the most vulnerable parties on our roads in the state of North Carolina. This is due to the fact that bicyclists have no protection from harm against passenger vehicles, which makes them more likely to be injured and even killed due to an accident. In 2018, it was determined that over 1,400 people were killed as a result of fatal crashes in the state of North Carolina. Out of these accidents, a small percentage of lives were taken due to bicycle accidents. However, these accidents are known for being incredibly severe.
Nobody is ever fully prepared to face the aftermath of a bicycle accident, especially when a life has been taken. As a family grieves the loss of a loved one whose life was taken too soon due to an accident, they may wonder what options they have and how they will afford to pay the bills that pile up against them. Because there are many challenges that a family will face, they should be prepared to speak with a North Carolina wrongful death attorney immediately.
