Statesville, NC (January 28, 2021) – On Wednesday night, January 27, two people were injured in a car accident on a highway in Statesville.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident took place in the eastbound lanes of I-40. Jon King, a man from Asheboro, was driving his Nissan pickup truck westbound in the wrong lane when he struck a Mazda SUV being operated by Benjamin Harley.
Police believe that King was driving the wrong way on the Interstate due to a medical condition. King and Harley were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries but their current conditions are not yet known.
The eastbound lanes of traffic were closed for an hour as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
