Wilmington, NC – Fatal Motorcycle Crash at NC-421 & Sutton Lake Rd

Wilmington, NC (October 20, 2021) – At 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, October 20, a fatal motorcycle crash occurred at an intersection in Wilmington.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened at the intersection of NC-421 and Sutton Lake Road. A motorcyclist was riding in the area when an SUV in front of them started to slow for traffic. The motorcyclist struck the back of the SUV. The motorcycle was badly damaged as a result of the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The motorcyclist, who has only been identified as a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. The driver of the SUV was not hurt in the accident but remained at the scene.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic were blocked for approximately two hours as police cleared the scene.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
