Wilmington, NC (September 17, 2021) – Around 2:55 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, September 14, a pedestrian accident occurred in Wilmington.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of 3rd Street and Harnett Street. A 33-year-old woman was involved in an accident at the intersection. The woman got out of her vehicle and walked onto the roadway when she was struck by a passenger vehicle.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The 33-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured in the accident. She was rushed to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The driver in the vehicle remained at the scene. Police determined that the driver, identified as a 27-year-old woman, was intoxicated at the time of the accident. She has since been charged with DWI and serious injuries caused by a DWI.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
