Winston-Salem, NC (February 2, 2021) – Around 6:15 p.m. on Monday evening, February 1, a man was killed in a fatal crash in Winston-Salem.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident took place in the westbound lanes of I-40 around the area of McGregor Road. Police confirmed that 77-year-old Billy Willard was traveling east in his SUV when his vehicle collided with a Mazda head-on due to reasons that are not yet known.
Willard was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as a result of traumatic injuries. Two occupants in the Mazda, who have not yet been formally identified, were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, though they are expected to be okay.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation continues.
