Winston-Salem, NC (December 27, 2021) – At 1 a.m. on Friday morning, December 24, a deputy was injured in a pedestrian accident in Winston-Salem.
According to Forsyth County deputies, the accident happened on US-52. One deputy noticed a speeding vehicle in the area and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy also called for a K9 team when the driver, identified as 28-year-old Ricky Simon, got back into his vehicle and attempted to flee. Two deputies attempted to stop Simon from leaving and were dragged for a distance by the vehicle before being thrown.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. One of the deputies involved in the accident broke his wrist and sustained a head injury. The other deputy is expected to make a full recovery.
Police found cocaine and marijuana in Simon’s car upon search. He has since been charged with fleeing to elude, assault with a deadly weapon, several drug charges, and more.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for some time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
