Durham, NC (January 31, 2022) – Several students were injured in a school bus accident that happened on Monday afternoon, January 31, in Durham.
Durham Police confirmed that the accident occurred at the intersection of Snow Hill Road and Torredge Road. A passenger vehicle was traveling in the area when it suddenly drove through a stop sign in the area, slamming into a school bus. There were 15 children on the bus who had just left the Lucas Middle School.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders, including fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Seven of the students on the bus were taken to the hospital for treatment, though they are all expected to be okay. One of the victims, a 12-year-old female, had neck pain due to the force of the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for a period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
