How to Speed Up a Personal Injury Case

It can be easy to feel like your personal injury case is taking forever. There seems to be a snag at every turn you take toward a resolution. You can’t help but wonder if there’s a way you can speed up your case, so you can get the money you deserve after the resolution.

But what can you do to move your case along in court? There are certain things you can do with the help of your lawyer to get a speedier resolution without the case taking years to resolve. Let’s take a look at those things so we can get you a quicker resolution.

Items to Give to Your Lawyer

There are certain items you can bring to your initial consultation or provide as quickly as you can get them. You want your lawyer to have as much information as you can give them yourself before getting started. You will want to give them this information yourself if possible because it eliminates the time it would take the lawyer to research the information themselves. These items include:

  1. The Police or Accident Report – Having the official record of the incident will help your lawyer get a clear idea of what happened. It helps them process the claim in a much shorter period of time. It also helps them give you much more accurate advice about what you can do with your case during the initial consultation.
  1. Pictures of the Scene – By the time you’ve seen medical professionals and you’re sitting in the lawyer’s office for the consultation, the scene of the incident has been cleared up. Taking photos of the scene can provide clues as to what happened during the incident, which can prove vital in your case.
  1. A Written Summary of the Facts – The police report of the incident is great for the lawyer to have, but writing down the facts as you saw the incident happen is even better. The lawyer will ask you for this information anyway, so it saves you both time if you have it in written form when walking in.
  1. Your Medical Bills – You may not need to bring the medical bills to your consultation but it’s a good idea to do so just in case. These bills can help the lawyer build a proper estimate for the claim itself when you file it. Getting the bills through your doctor can take time that you might not have at this point when filing the claim.
  2. Your Health Insurance Info – Depending on the severity of your incident, there may be a liens attached to your claim. Bringing proof of your health insurance status can help the lawyer get a needed head start on perhaps starting the subrogation process, if it’s necessary to do so.

What to Keep in Mind when Filing the Claim

There are certain things you should keep in mind when you and your lawyer are filing the claim. While the claim is being processed, it’s best to keep the following things in mind:

  1. Keep your lawyer up to date with your medical treatment, bills or other documents related to your case.
  2. Follow the doctor’s instructions for proper recovery so you can avoid getting less money.
  3. Figure out what sort of outcome you want from the case, whether it’s financial, work, or time based.
  4. Never exaggerate or downplay the symptoms of your injuries. Don’t talk about it on social media.
