What to Do After a Wreck

You find yourself in a wreck on the way home after traveling safely through an intersection. This is the first time you have ever been in a wreck and you aren’t sure what to do. Let’s take a look into the process so you can learn about the proper way to deal with a wreck.

1. Move to a safe area (if possible).

The first thing you should do when you get into a wreck is to move your vehicle to a safe place. You don’t want to make the scene worse by causing another wreck with someone else. You don’t want to get into a multiple-vehicle accident. Make sure you get your vehicle moved to a place where you will not be harmed further. If you cannot get your vehicle to move, then leave it where it is.

2. Stop your vehicle and get out.

Make sure that your vehicle is completely stopped before you exit it. You do not want to be harmed by getting out of the vehicle before it has stopped moving. It could easily hit you as well as another pedestrian or vehicle. You want to move to a safe place if you are unable to move the vehicle to a safe place by driving it.

3. Check on the other drivers involved in the wreck.

The third step you should take after getting into an accident is to check on the health of the other drivers involved in the wreck. Check on them to see if you need to call an ambulance. If an ambulance needs to be called, then this is the time to do so. Make sure that the other people are out of the way of other people in traffic so that they are not harmed or harmed further.

4. Call the police to the scene of the wreck if needed.

If the wreck has caused serious damage to one or both vehicles, then the police need to be called to the scene. This is the best time to call them to the scene of the wreck. The police officer will need to write a report of the wreck so you can turn that in to the insurance company. The police will give you a copy of that report before you leave the scene. They can also give you suggestions about wrecker companies.

5. Gather insurance info for all the drivers.

Make sure to get the insurance information of the other driver so you can file a claim with them. Make sure to ask about the company’s address, phone number, and other contact information. That way, you can know who to ask for or what to say when filing the claim with the other person’s insurance company.

6. Document the scene of the wreck.

This is a good time to document the scene of the wreck. Make sure to take photos of the wreck so you can have it just in case. You can use these photos as proof if you have need of it during the claim-filing process.

7. File a claim with your insurance carrier.

You need to file a claim with your insurance carrier or the carrier of the other person involved in the wreck. This will need to happen after you leave the scene of the wreck itself. When you file the claim with the insurance company, they will ask you questions about what happened. You can use any documents of the wreck you collected to make sure your information is correct.
